Hurdles cleared

Apartment? Check.
Plane tickets? Check.
Course number? Check.
Tetanus shot and all other medical clearances? Check.
Visa? Check. (And thanks for waving that fee, Austrian Consulate! The paperwork may have been tricky but the people and process were fabulous.)

Visa D...

Just in case anyone was wondering, the visa process is not all that bad. Unless you want to stay for more than 90 days. Which I want to. In fact, I'm contractually obligated to stay for four months (five if you count the commitment to my own university's study abroad program).

Which means Schengen Visa D. Which means lots of paperwork. I feel a bit like a piece of livestock. I promise I don't have rabies, Austria. I also promise that I have a job and won't be falling back on your social safety net (not that I don't envy it). You won't take my word for it? No, of course you can't. I understand. I'll get the paperwork done right away.

Requiring exact change on a 129 USD fee, though? That's just mean.
